Dogs as animals have their unique body language you ought to be aware of in your dealings and interactions with them. A dog, for instance, does not make any sort of sound without a reason. So you might want to understand what each sound is meant for.
Calmness and Patience
It might be quite easy to assume that a dog operates at the same level of intelligence. How? Whenever you scold a dog once it doesn’t catch up with your instruction, you become guilty of such acts. Give that dog a while to get used to your commands. Even as higher beings, it takes a while to understand certain concepts. Why then do we expect any more from our dogs.
Always have it in mind to praise (the heck) out of a dog for acting bravely or being of good behavior. Dog take notes of reactions; unlike humans whom you can complement later for a job well done previously, you can’t afford to do that with your dog. Encourage it immediately by rubbing its fur and patting it on the head and you would be sure it would respond the same way next time.
Correct by directing its attention
When it comes to correcting a dog’s wrongs, you would only be wasting your time and hurting the dog if you just yelled at it or beat it. Correcting a dog can only be effective by directing its attention to the spot where such wrongs occur. How? An incidence happened years back when all of a sudden, my dog just started popping just at any spot. It got so alarming that I intervened by raising it up by the neck- I intentionally exerted pains on it, then took it to the spots where it had pooed, forced it to eat the poo, leaving his nostrils at the poo’s surface for about 2 mins and that was it.
He never did such again. I had before taking such drastic measures on it once beaten it in the past, but that didn’t correct the wrong.
Be sure to be consistent in the use of same verbal or hand commands while training and during each day to day interaction with the dog. For instance, starting with a command and then switching to another different command can be quite confusing.
Your dog’s health is as important as their training. Just as the level of your health determines how effective you can get, so also is it with your dog. Check up with your vet to know what healthy diet, and vaccinations your dog should be placed on.
